FAQs
Turns and Actions
Can you repeat actions within your turn?
Yes, actions can be repeated (up to 3 times), including attacking an occupied castle — however, once you have successfully conquered a castle, you cannot attack again.
Can you place multiple Castlans (meeples) in a single turn?
Yes, by occupying empty castles (either by paying the 4 resources or using the appropriate Favour Card) or by winning an attack against an occupied castle.
Does only the starting player draw tokens from the bag?
No. Each player begins their turn by reaching into the bag and drawing one token (which is not returned to the bag).
Can Estate Tiles be placed on a hex shared by 2 adjacent castles?
Yes. An Estate Tile can be placed on those hexes. The only requirement is that it is adjacent to 2 castles — there is no need for spaces in between.
The game ends when someone has placed all their Castlans (meeples) and all their Estate Tiles. Does that mean they've won, or do points still need to be counted?
The noble who achieves this first wins immediately. Points are only counted if all 5 centuries have passed and no one has managed to do so.
Combat
Can dice be rerolled in combat for both attack and defence?
Yes, as long as you can pay the cost of 1 Army resource, up to a maximum of 3 rolls in total. This means that during a combat — whether attacking or defending — you can spend a maximum of 2 Army resources.
Favour Cards
When you play a Favour Card that applies in combat, does its effect last for the entire combat or just one round of it?
It lasts for the entire combat. And it applies only in favour of the player who uses it.
Can the "Strategic Retreat" Favour Card be used both in attack and defence?
No. This card allows the defending Castlà to move to an adjacent unoccupied castle if the combat — and therefore the castle — is lost. As such, it can only be played when you are the defender.
The "Settlement Card" Favour Card: do you need to pay resources when using it to occupy a castle?
No. The Settlement Card already grants you the permission and resources to do so.
Can I take as many Favour Cards as I want, paying one Crown per card, or am I limited to one?
You may take as many as you have Crown resources to pay for (in a single action). Errata: although the rulebook states this, we recommend limiting acquisition to a maximum of 3 per turn.
What happens if the Favour Cards run out?
Used cards are returned to the bottom of the Favour Card pile as they are played.
