Turning on the tap and having water come out is something we do every day without a second thought. But behind that simple gesture lies a system that runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

24/7/365 is an interactive installation for the Museu de les Aigües de Cornellà that explains how drinking water is supplied to the Barcelona metropolitan area.

The Challenge

The Museu de les Aigües de Cornellà wanted to explain the complexity behind having water come out of the tap: the entire system that makes such a simple gesture possible and delivers drinking water across the whole Barcelona metropolitan area.

They needed an interactive tool that was easy to use and, at the same time, helped visitors genuinely understand how the system works.

The Solution

The Concept

The interactive walks visitors through the process that brings water to people’s homes: catchment, distribution, maintenance… It also shows how water is obtained under different conditions — during a drought, for instance, or in a wet season. This helps visitors understand that the system must constantly adapt to keep the water flowing.

How It Works

The installation features a large screen and a tablet that acts as a control panel. Depending on the age of the group, it is either operated by the museum guide or by the children themselves. The experience adapts to however much time each group wants to spend, and can last anywhere from 10–15 minutes to a full hour.

The Renovation

In 2026 we updated the application. We refreshed the interface and added a new animation piece, launched directly from within 24/7/365. The museum already had its own video to kick off a scavenger hunt for children, and we turned it into a purpose-built animation for younger audiences, drawing on elements from the original.

The video opens like a documentary about the Llobregat river — until an incoming transmission interrupts it. The inhabitants of Mercury have run out of water and have taken the river’s supply with them. All they’ve left us Earthlings is what’s in the aquifers.

That’s how the scavenger hunt begins, and children come away understanding why the aquifer matters so much — and what it actually is: not a river or an underground lake.

Impact

24/7/365 makes it possible to explain, from within a century-old building, how the system that supplies water to over 3 million people actually works. And people stop, engage, and play.
